My right eye is of limited use now, so I realised that a monocle was more convenient than spectacles. I can remove it from my top pocket very easily and insert it quicker than fumbling with specs. The quality of the prescription varifocal lens is superb. A very practical object, although ("I say chaps!") my friends do giggle at its pervasive and probably undeserved identification with the aristocracy.
I love my monocle! When I told people I was going to get one, everyone was surprised at the idea. I had a tumor on my left optic nerve, which left me nearly blind in my left eye. Why would I wear glasses when I cannot see out of one eye? I need a little help with seeing far, the prescription is perfect and it fits under my sunglasses. I love the chain and the black cord but the weight pulls the monocle out. I ordered the right size, I think I just don't have enough brow or cheek to really hold it but it does stay when driving and watching TV. Thank you!
I like it. Straightforward to order with a query quickly answered. Delivery was on time (as indicated at order. Went for the larger size (used the template on cardboard: the smaller one would require more muscle effort to keep it in place). I had one eye removed a six months ago, so a monocle for my monocular vision makes perfect sense. Also went for a varifocal lens as I am of a certain age…plus astigmatism. I’ll use it when socialising (not for driving!) - now just need to buy a cravat!
It just doesn't do what I hoped it would, which is let me read small print while wearing distance-vision glasses with a balance lens. In hindsight, it's clear it would never have worked, I don't know what I was thinking, just didn't think it through. Instead I'm going to carry a magnifying glass with handle, and either use that or change glasses ... I end up with a monocle I have no use for. Should have known better, I suppose
The lens is perfectly clear and helps me read and see distance with the other eye. I'm still having trouble stopping it fall out occasionally!

The gallery at 40mm is, sadly, too large for my eye socket to allow "hands free" use. It would seem to be a simple fix, by 'bending' the retainer frames closer but I am hesitant to do so for fear of distorting the lens holder. Please advise? The monocle is very good in all other respects, the lens is perfect and, overall it is almost the desired solution.
